A substantial brush made with the quality and aesthetics one expects from QED. Apart from the comfort and secure grip offered by the lathe-turned ergonomic handle, a truly striking feature of the high quality resin is the coppery swirls produced by mica minerals under the handle surface, somewhat reminiscent of antique red garnet.
Silvertip Badger (in general) is the rarest and most expensive badger hair with the softest and most luxurious natural off-white tips. Because silvertip is a finer hair, more individual hairs are required to fill a brush's knot making them very dense and very soft, yet providing a sturdy backbone (resiliency). Due to their extreme water retention capacity a silvertip badger brush can create a thick profuse lather quickly and easily. Because of the scarcity of this hair, silvertip shaving brushes are the most expensive grade available.
QED Select Silvertip Badger shaving brushes contain the highest quality hand-packed, uncut, unbleached, unmixed silvertip badger hair, retaining the hairs suppleness, softness and natural color. The densely packed 24mm knot has superb ‘backbone’ (resiliency) yet very soft tips. The hair is fine gauge and has the most superior water absorbency of any of the badger hair grades. For the gentleman seeking the softest, most luxurious tactile lathering experience, the QED Select Silvertip Badger shaving brush is the ideal choice. $58.00
Brush measurements (approximate):
• Faux Red Garnet Handle height = 52mm (2.05")
• Silvertip Badger Hair height = 51mm (2.01")
• Total height = 103mm (4.06")
• Knot size [hair diameter at base] = 24mm (0.94")
NOTE: Bleaching of “silvertip” and “best” badger hair is rather common these days.. In some cases it is requested for aesthetic reasons, to give the tips of the hairs a lighter more eye-appealing appearance. But there may also be less than honorable reasons for bleaching, particularly to give the impression (the "look") the hair is of a higher quality. As with human hair, bleaching badger hair can make it dry, brittle and prone to breakage. The badger hair in QED Select shaving brushes is NOT bleached. |
