People have benefited from the restorative qualities of birch tar for centuries. Acne, eczema, seborrhea, psoriasis, dandruff, and itchy skin have all been successfully treated with birch tar, and because of the naturally occurring salicylic acid (an organic plant hormone) and methyl salicylate (an organic ester) in birch tar, it acts as a natural exfoliator that sloughs off dead skin and tones new skin. As a disinfectant, birch tar prevents microbial infections and speeds up the healing process. In addition to birch tar, this soap also contains dandelion tea, burdock root, calcium bentonite clay, and a blend of essential oils to compliment the birch tar. The essential oils include cajeput, juniper, tea tree and peppermint, which provide additional antiseptic and anti-fungal qualities as well as thoroughly clean and moisturize both hair and scalp. But that's not all, the soap base consists of moisturizing coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, avocado oil, wheatgerm oil, and organic jojoba oils, along with organic cocoa butter and organic shea butter. To get a good lather, rub the soap bar across your wet hair several times until a good lather is achieved, then continue to gently massage hair and scalp to insure lather has covered entire head. You may want to let the lather sit on the head for a minute or so before rinsing thoroughly. What’s truly great about this soap is its versatility; it can also be used on the face and body, particularly for oily, acne-prone skin. A manly-sized handmade bar that measures approximately 3½” x 2½” x 1” and weighs approximately 5 ounces. QEDman Birch Tar Shampoo Bar contains almost double the ingredients of other QEDman Specialty Soap Bars, consequently it's a bit more expensive. This soap is hand-poured and rough-cut. This process naturally produces irregularities in shape and surface texture (characteristics of truly handmade soap) but does not diminish the efficacy of the soap. $9.95
TRANSITIONING TO ALL NATURAL SHAMPOO BARS: Many will not go through a transition period. For those that do, there may be a natural adjustment period depending on your hair type, your water and the hair products you previously used. All commercial shampoos will leave a build up on hair. Initially, our shampoo bars may not wash away this build up, causing hair to feel coated, heavy or waxy after the first few washes. In this case, use an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse; it helps by removing soap residue and mineral deposits from hard water. Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 8 ounces of water. Pour through hair after shampooing and let it sit for a minute or two. Rinse well. The vinegar scent will not be noticeable after your hair drives. Most people are fine without an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse. Further details: About cold processed soap
